These are some of the people whom I want to interact with in the same way that Grandma Nuttall interacted with her grandchildren. These are photos of a visit we had at Eastertime, 2009 from our daughter Sara Henderson, her husband Ray, and their four children Hannah, Benton, William and Avril.
I think we made some headway during their visit in being the kind of grandparents we want to be. For one thing, before we left on our Mission, we had given all of our grandchildren missionary plaques for children that read " Futuro Misionero (or Misionera). Espero que me llaman a la Mision." ("Future Missioinary. I hope they call me on a mission.")
Sara told me that Benny (Benton) wears his tag every Sunday to church and talks often about his future Mission.
Sara is now serving as Young Women´s President in her ward and had been working in Young Women as a Counselor to the President before that. Sara and I have been able to compare notes on the beautiful refining process our youth go through as they progress through the Young Women or Young Men programs of the Church and then go onto the next stage of their lives, which very often is the opportunity to serve a fulltime Mission.
We were also able to create some happy memories interact with the kids
and help like normal grandparents when the Hendersons were here. (That´s me you in the background, helping Avril get loaded into the car.)
President Benton made a fun and happy memory making brownies with the kids when they were here, brownie dough samples and all, as evidenced by the suspicious brown spots around Avril´s mouth, and Benny licking his finger.
We love being grandparents!!!
