Today I'm sending lots of love to my dear friend Maria, a member of the Church who works at the Mission Home. Maria is the mother of 4 children, ages 21 to 6, and she was a wonderful mother to me when I first arrived here. Maria and I have become great friends, even though she doesn't speak a word of English, and I speak just a very little Spanish.
When I was missing my family alot, Maria made me a special hot drink for "Triste cuando extrana su familia" (Sadness when you miss your family). It was made with the water from boiled oranges, with the peel, apple tea, and honey. She would bring the drink to me in an orange cup, along with lots of love from her.
The drink really worked to lessen my sadness when she brought it to me! Truly, I think it was because of the LOVE that came with it, straight from Maria's heart.
Maria also makes great cakes, and lots more delicious food for us and the missionaries. As she says, "Mi encanta cociniendo!" (I absolutely love cooking!)
The cake pictured here is one Maria made for us and a group of missionaries that is vanilla cake layered with peaches, frosted with whipped cream and sugar, and topped with peaches and chocolate chips. It was, to say the least," muy delicioso", as is all the food she makes.
Maria suffered a miscarraige last week, and today is her first day back at work since that happened, so, now it's MY turn to make HER the special drink for "Triste", which I'm more than happy to do.
I love you lots Maria, "mi querida amiga"!
