Remember the Elder who got the sad news about his sister last Monday night, and his Mom asked me to give him a big hug?
Well, Evrett and I both spent the day interviewing missionaries yesterday in the "Catan" area of our Mission, and look who showed up for an interview? It was Elder Hansen, the elder who got the news on Monday and who's Mom asked me to give him a "big hug" for her!
President Benton authorized me to give Elder Hansen a couple of huge hugs for his Mom, which I did, and it was so great to see him doing so well!
We both talked at length with Elder Hansen, and we could feel his strong and vibrant spirit. If Elder Hansen's Parents are reading this, we want you to know that he's doing fine. He's going to "make it", and even thrive, because he's a very valiant guy, and he has a companion (from Chile) who is taking very good care of him, by doing things like putting a protective arm around him constantly.
(Elder Hansen gave me permission to tell his name on our blog, along with sharing his testimony.)
Thanks for sharing your strong and inspirinig testimony with us Elder Hansen!
Our love, thoughts and prayers are with you every day!

Below is the talked that Elder Hansen wrote that was read at his sister's funeral.
Dennis Hansen
As we are born into this life we are often filled with joy, gladness, and peace. And so it was for Maren, (I suppose, I wasn’t actually there,) Maren was born on January 5, 1987 to Dennis and Sharma Hansen. They were filled with joy as they saw her grow and felt privileged to have opportunity to have one of our Heavenly Father’s finest daughters with them.
Due to the fall of our first parents, Maren was able to take her part in mortality through her birth. She was able to grow, learn from her own experiences and cherish the people the she was around.
She had to be strong, for she was cursed with 2 younger brothers, as well as diabetes. She was an example to many. I remember reading her weekly emails to me and hearing of her problems, but also how she was confident that the Lord would help her grow stronger and overcome the trials that faced her. She was a hero to me.
But now death has claimed her victim. On July 21, 2008 Maren Michelle Hansen passed through to the other side of the veil to a loving Heavenly Father. Though Maren is now not with us, God has made a plan that this brief separation will not be permanent.
“the atonement bringeth to pass the resurrection of the dead; and the
resurrection of the dead bringeth back men into the presence of God;
and thus they are restored into his presence, to be judged according to
their words, according to the law and justice.”
Our loving Heavenly Father knows the end from the beginning; and in His tender mercy and love, He sent His only Begotten “that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Jesus Christ was born into this life to fulfill the will of His father. He lived a perfect life and during the last 12 hours of his life he paid for the sings of the world through every pour of his body.
For behold, I, God, have suffered these things for all, that they might not suffer
If they would repent;
But if they would not repent, they must suffer even as I:
Which suffering caused myself, even God, the greatest of all,
To tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to
Suffer both body and spirit----and would that I might not
Drink the bitter cup, and shrink----
Nevertheless, glory be to the Father, and I partook and finished my
Preparations unto the children of men
One of the preparations that the Savior made was the laying down of His life. He had no need to die, for He was the Son of the Living God, but he submitted Himself to the will of the Father in all things. And at the place of the skull, or Calvary, He gave up the ghost.
The pain that we feel today, swept through his disciples and His loved ones as they saw their beloved Master hang on the cross. But then something marvelous happened.
That first Easter Sunday morning Mary Magdalene, as well as other many faithful followers of the Lord, went to the tomb to prepare his body. They were greeted in shock and awe as they saw the tomb empty. They were spoken to by a heavenly angel which said unto them.
Why seek ye the living among the dead?
He is not here, but is “risen: remember how he spake unto you when
He was yet in Galilee,
Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful
Men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.”
And so the Christ fulfilled His holy purpose, breaking the bands of death.
Maren has now passed onto the other side, but because of our lord and Savior, even Jesus Christ, we shall see her one day in the near future.
But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of
them that slept.
For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection
of the dead
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
I love Maren with all my heart. She was my sister and I will miss her immensely. But I know that I will see her again. And not only that, but that she will live again. I will never be able to thank her for all the emails that she sent me on a weekly basis, nor take her up on all the sushi that she owes me, but I know that she will be my sister forever. Christ made this possible. I thank God that He sent His only Begotten to break the bands of death so that I will be able to see and live with her again. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
